One of them proves to be a location, and does so because of the bridge. With a total length of approx. 2.6 km, the Zoobrücke in the north of Cologne, Germany, not only spans the Rhine, but also large parts of the banks of both sides. The places that thereby came into being underneath the bridge seem like mere side effects. In their insignificance, they stand in strong contrast to the bridge on the one hand and the riverbank on the other. While the bridge is a structure that defines a path and serves to overcome a natural obstacle, the areas at its base are static places created by it - located next to this natural obstacle. They are shaped by dualisms, by the interactions between the human and the natural, between what was created intentionally and what came about unintentionally, between power and loss of control.
Zoobrücke is a personal, photographic exploration of the contrasts, ambivalences and conditionalities of these places. I started it in August 2020, when I got my first job and went on almost daily lunchtime strolls in the area close to the office.
The perspective deliberately chosen from the bridge emphasizes the dependency on the bridge and creates a certain degree of abstraction. This, as well as the section determined by the 50mm lens, partly detach the motif from its context and turn it into some sort of metaphor. In combination with the black-and-white film, a visual force is created that produces a certain discrepancy between the image and the - partial - banality of what is depicted, thus expressing the ambivalence of the place.

Mit einer Gesamtlänge von ca. 2,6 km überspannt die Zoobrücke im Kölner Norden nicht nur den Rhein, sondern auch weite Teile des Ufers beider
Seiten. Die dadurch gewissermaßen als Begleiterscheinungen entstandenen Orte stehen in ihrer Nebensächlichkeit in starkem Kontrast zur Brücke
einerseits und dem Flussufer andererseits. Während die Brücke ein Bauwerk ist, das einen Weg definiert und der Überwindung eines natürlichen Hindernisses dient, sind die Bereiche an ihrem Fuß durch sie entstandene, statische Orte - an diesem natürlichen Hindernis. Sie sind von Dualismen geprägt, von den Wechselwirkungenzwischen Menschlichem und Natürlichem, zwischen planvoll Geschaffenem und absichtslos Entstandenem, Kontrolle und Unkontrollierbarem.
Zoobrücke ist eine seit August 2020 andauernde persönliche, photographische Erkundung der Gegensätze, Ambivalenzen und Bedingtheiten dieser Orte. Dabei ist die Perspektive bewusst von der Brücke gewählt, um zum einen das Abhängigkeitsverhältnis zum Brückenbau zu verdeutlichen und zum
anderen einen gewissen Grad an Abstraktion zu erzeugen. Dadurch, sowie durch die vom 50mm Objektiv festgelegten Ausschnitte wird das Motiv aus
seinem Kontext gelöst und ein Stückweit zur Metapher. In Kombination mit der Aufnahme auf schwarz-weiß Film entsteht eine visuelle Kraft, die eine gewisse Diskrepanz zwischen dem Bild und der teilweisen Banalität des Abgebildeten erzeugt und so die Ambivalenz des Ortes zum Ausdruck bringt.
